Today at Artclub we worked both inside and out, making the most of the beautiful weather. Outside, we painted the owls in white, which will be the colour underneath the pom-poms. We worked in groups of four, and if you did not get a chance to paint them this week, you will be able to work first on them next week.
The main activity this week was still-life drawing. There were several different fruits to choose from - apples, pears, plums, strawberries and oranges and our brief was to draw them in oil pastel. This we did looking very closely at the fantastic colours that could be seen in the fruits.
We looked at the children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and how the illustrator had depicted the fruits in the story. We were trying to use colours that we may not necessarily have thought as obvious, such as browns in the shadows at the bottom of the pears, yellow in the strawberries and blue in the plums.
The Artclub have been asked to produce some artwork for the community centre in Stanhope which Mrs. Mistry and myself are excited about. As the centre hosts a breakfast club for toddlers we will be making some large mixed media artwork for their walls based on the story of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", as the caterpillar eats some lovely healthy food at the beginning of his journey.
Next week we will be using paint to recreate our oil pastel drawings on a large scale, so please remember to bring in an old shirt or top to wear over your school uniform. We will also be continuing with our owls.
Robin Hood prides itself on being Art Mark Gold Award winners. Our OFSTED also awarded us with an Outstanding standard for our work not only in the Arts but across our curriculum. This blog showcases some of our amazing art and creativity projects taking place across school.

Our new Artclub!
Hi and welcome to our new KS2 Artclub. Today we split our group in two. Half of us paper machied the owls I have been making, whilst the other half made some pom-poms.
Meanwhile, inside, the other half of the artclub were making pom-poms. When you see how big these owls are, you will see that we need a fair few pom-poms. If anybody would like to help make some then please let me, Mrs. Chin know and I can provide you with some wool and some cardboard circles.
Halfway through our session we swapped to do the other activity.
Next week we will be starting our new project. We will be doing some lovely drawing to start it off.
Fortunately the weather allowed us to get outside under the canopy which meant we could enjoy the messy activity even more. The owls are made from wire and stuffed to give a surface on which to stick the paper. It still proved tricky, especially around the wings!
The paper mache will provide a surface on which to stick the pom-poms. All the children in school have had the opportunity to make a pom-pom and these will be stuck all over the two owls.

The Big Draw 2012
The Big Draw was a fantastic opportunity to allow our children to indulge their creative passions and to immerse themselves in the highly enjoyable experience of drawing. Here, we recognise that drawing is not restricted to a pencil and paper approach but drawing can be carried out in endless ways.
In classrooms children were drawing in pairs, in teams and independently, using a huge range of drawing tools which created either highly colourful or powerfully monochrome outcomes.
The themes varied from self-portraits to golden tickets through to space and famous people, all chosen carefully to appeal to the child and to promote age appropriate drawing skills.
The classrooms were buzzing with energy and excitement as the children shared their outcomes with a real sense of pride. In the hall the children were able to take a more free approach to drawing, choosing to doodle and design in a way that was personal to them.
They used a huge range of media on varying scales and together managed to fill the floor of the entire hall, which was lined with good quality lining paper!

At last! The finished models of the butterflies and dragonflies
Here at last is a photostory of the finished models! I am sure you will agree they are fabulous! Sorry for the delay in getting them on to the blog. The delay was unavoidable.
They are on display at the Children's Centre in Lofthouse in one of their community rooms and also in the corridor together with a display of some of our salt dough models.
On the 17th January we invited our family and friends to an open afternoon at the Children's Centre to look at the finished pieces. They agreed they add lots of colour and interest.

Thursday 13th December
Well this week was our last session of Artclub for this half term.
All the "bits" needed painting for our big painting of Cinderella's kitchen. These will be cut out and added on to the background.
To complete the Butterflies and Dragonflies project we needed to paint a background and flowers. On to this some of the more robust saltdough models we made earlier in the half term, have been stuck. This I have just assembled up at Children's Centre this evening and it looks fabulous.
The large models we have made are now at the Children's Centre and will be displayed over Christmas. We have a date planned for our Artclubbers to bring their family and friends to see them. It is on Thursday 17th January at 3.45pm.
We look forward to seeing you there.
A huge thankyou to all you KS 1 artists who have been so enthusiastic to try all the things we do, whether it's inside, outside, painting, drawing, making sculptures....you have been amazing........!

Thursday 6th December
This week we continued with our scenery for the Drama Club's production.
This will be built in the school hall just before the production in January.
We painted the leaves to add to the beanstalk's stem.
Whilst some of us worked on this, others were busy painting the backdrop which is Cinderella's kitchen.
We printed the brickwork for the old-fashioned cooker, painted the dresser, table, ceiling and window.
Next week is our last Artclub for Key Stage 1. We will be completing the Cinderella painting and creating a background on which we will display the fabulous salt dough butterflies and dragonflies we made earlier in the term. This will be put up in the Children's Centre to accompany the large scale models we have been making for their community room.
We had a beanstalk to construct. We cut our painted fabric into strips, stapled the edges together and stuffed them with scrunched up newspaper.

Thursday 29th November
Well we like to be ambitious in Artclub! This week we had two massive paintings taking over the floor of Nursery.
They are both for the Drama Club's Christmas production. The first is a backdrop of Cinderella's kitchen.
We used sponges and paint to cover vast areas of fabric.

We concentrated on filling in the floor and the walls of Cinderella's kitchen with colour.
Meanwhile the fabric was being painted that will make the beanstalk. Using big paintbrushes and sponges to create texture we painted it green.
