The Big Draw 2014

On Monday 13^th October Robin Hood Primary School took part in The Big Draw.  The 2014 Big Draw runs from 1 October to 2^nd November across the UK and in twenty other countries, with 280,000 people expected to join in over 1000+ events. This year the theme is “It’s our World” and is a celebration of our environment – of urban, rural and coastal landscapes.

In preparation for the big day the school hall was transformed into one big ocean.  The entire floor was covered with “sea” paper with four islands in the shape of Africa, Europe, North America and South America.  Each key stage was given a continent and throughout the day each class came into the hall and drew what they wanted to, be it on land or sea.

The following afternoon the children invited their family and friends into the hall to see their amazing drawing.  The hall was filled with people and many had a go at drawing their own pictures to add to the celebration of the world.

Thursday 3rd July

Today was the last Artclub session this school year.
It gave us chance to have a bit of fun and experiment with the Safeprint blocks we have been using to make our "Andy Warhol" inspired prints.

So off we went and made some patterns...

...by spontaneously drawing on to the block. When repeating the print we could enhance the design by changing the direction of the print.

After we had made a print from the Safeprint block, that had been drawn on, we were encouraged to ink the block again, then lay flattish objects on the block to add experimental marks to the print.

From this technique we discovered some exciting effects.  This print looks as if the pattern has another layer behind it.

Some of us chose to create a picture and then overprint on to it. This is Elsa from the film "Frozen"

 Whilst others chose to start a picture, print it, make some changes and then keep printing as details were added.

Thursday 26th June

At Artclub today we continued with our “Andy Warhol” inspired prints.

There were backgrounds to print and then on to these we overprinted the blocks we had designed and collaged.

For those of us who had finished printing, there was time to do some still-life observational drawing on to paper to inspire our next design, or in contrast, we could draw directly on to the block to create some experimental marks.
