Thursday 8th December

It was our last Artclub session for Key Stage 1 today.
We coloured in and decorated Christmas cards and finished off "teeth" for our shark, "eyes" for our crab and fins for our fish.
Tonight, Mrs. Mistry, Mrs. Comstive and myself, Mrs. Chin have put the festive painting we have been working on in Artclub up in the hall for all to see. Mrs. Comstive has said it will be the perfect backdrop to her Drama Club's production. So how exciting!
Mrs. Mistry and I would like to say what a pleasure it has been working with you all this half term and we are very impressed with the skills you are developing as young artists.

The Big Draw comes to Robin Hood 2011

On October 3rd 2011, we had a FANTASIC day dedicated to drawing. The whole school took part in The Big Draw 2011, which was a fabulous way of showing the children and wider community the importance of enriching drawing experiences. Take a look at some of the Highlights....

Week 5. Thursday 17th November

Today at Artclub we were adding colour and texture to the creatures. We chose colours that complimented the background paint we had applied last week.
There were glittery fabrics, sequins, feathers, ribbon, felt, shiny paper and Mrs. Mistry produced a tub of glitter to really brighten them up!
The crab was painted too - orange and brown.
We are taking a break from our "Under the Sea" creatures for a couple of weeks to work on a collaborative Christmas painting that will be hung in the hall for Christmas. Please can I ask parents and carers to send some old clothes to change into as we will be kneeling on the floor to paint (as it's so big!) and it is so easy to kneel in a wet bit of paint. Thankyou.

Week 4. Thursday 10th November

Today we have been busy painting the models we paper mached last week.
Our design brief required us to use bright colours so we chose colours inspired by the illustrations in the book "Commotion in the Ocean".

Week 3. Thursday 3rd November

This week Artclub had a very special visitor. Sara Jackson, the Manager of the Children's Centre in Lofthouse came to talk to us all about our real life art project. She talked to the children about how the babies needed some bright, colourful models to look at whilst they were at the Children's Centre. She and her team had written a letter to Artclub (Which is in the photostory below) stating what was needed and where the finished pieces would be.
They are to be hung in the Community Room from the ceiling above the sand and water area, and are to be bright and colourful. They also need to be things the babies would recognise, such as sea animals.
We showed Sara that we meant business by demonstrating our paper mache skills. She talked to each of the children watching what they were doing and asking them questions. As you can see there was a lot of sticky glue and paper around and Sara showed great bravery getting close to the action! We worked in small groups paper macheing our shark, turtle, octopus and two fish.
Finally it was time for Sara to leave and she wished us well in our project and couldn't wait to see the finished sculptures!
Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Carers please send in a change of old clothes if you wish, for your child to change into, as next week there will be further paper mache and paint!

Week 2

This week we developed our designs for sea creatures by using collage. We used lots of bright colours and different textured materials to create effects you would see under water. View the photostory below to see the brilliant results....

Key Stage 1 Artclub - Autumn Term

This half term Artclub have been asked to work on a real life commission.
Sara Jackson, Manager of the Children's Centre in Lofthouse asked if the Artclub could transform the water and sand area of their community room.
She said the room was very plain and the babies do not have much to look at, so if we could design and make some models to hang from the ceiling it would make the babies very happy.
Mrs. Mistry and myself, Mrs. Chin jumped at the chance to undertake this commission with the pupils of Key Stage 1. We all felt an "Under the Sea" theme would be fabulous!
Week 1
At our first session of Artclub we looked at the brilliantly illustrated books "Commotion in the Ocean" and "Barry the fish with Fingers". We used these as source material to draw pictures of the sea creatures which most inspired us. Have a look at the photostory below to see the brilliant pictures we drew......
