Thursday 20th September

A huge welcome to KS1 Artclub! We have a new venue, which is Nursery.  So parents please collect straight from the Nursery doors...and a super new project.

We have been asked by the Children's Centre, based at Rodillian school, Lofthouse to turn one of their community rooms into a Butterfly and Dragonfly room.

As you can see there are some butterflies hanging from the ceiling which gave them the idea.  The artclub are going to make some large scale sculptures to hang from the ceiling.  These we will design, create and decorate over the next few weeks.

Today we coloured in line drawings of butterflies and dragonflies.  We were allowed to choose which we wanted to do.

We talked about what was important in nature's design of these insects.  They were "Beautifully coloured", "patterned", "had wings", "had the same patterns on both sides" and were "symmetrical".

This we then practised. We were careful to keep our colouring in the lines and shade in one direction.
This prompted us to have some background music playing whilst we coloured, so we started with One Direction's "What makes you beautiful"

Some of us completed the colouring and then designed our own butterfly / dragonfly.

Next week we are going to look at the shape of the butterflies and dragonflies and make some models out of salt dough.  This will encourage us to think three dimensionally.

Please can you all remember an artshirt or old T shirt.
