Printmaking with Key Stage 1 - Week 2

During week 2 we were going to use all of our knowledge and apply it to a different style of printing; block printing. We used Safeprint sheets into which you can engrave a picture. Our topic was the Rainforest. The first design needed to be minimalist and very simple. We drew trees, animals, fish…

We then rolled ink evenly on to our Safeprint and then turned it over on to the paper.  Putting a sheet of newsprint on top allowed any stray blobs of ink to be mopped up when we rolled on top with a dry roller to impress the ink on to the paper.

This we repeated four times, one in each corner of the paper.

The next day we carved more detail into the Safeprint and applied a contrasting layer of printing ink.

This we then rolled again with a dry roller.

Whilst we were waiting to use the printing table we were able to make marks with stampers and stencils on a giant sheet of paper which ran all the way down one side of the class.
